Okay, so there are two methods of roll playing. They are known as the story and first-person methods.
Story Method
The story method is, as stated by the name, simply typing it like a story. You type a paragraph of information that fits the moment, e.g.
<begin comment>
Aqua stepped into the field. He felt confused, for he had no idea how he had managed to get here. "Where am I?" he asked himself. Looking around, he saw some wolves. Being the cautious one, he doesn't get too close.
<end comment>
Basically you are a narrator.
First-Person Method
This is better if you're performing an action Roll Play. e.g.
[name]: Huh? where am I?
<next comment>
[name2]: You're in my clearing. *Steps forward*
<Next comment>
[name]: *Steps back, slightly scared* I am?
If you are making a conversation between two of your characters, put them in the same comment. Nobody likes a double poster.
[name]: Hi [name2]!
[name2]: Hello.
<next comment>
For first-person, there are various terms.
<insert character name>: = Who is saying the line or performing the action. Place before the actual line.
*<insert action>* = Used when your character is doing anything. Place said action after the name, and time it well with lines if stated. Always allow room for failure, but don't cause others to never succeed.
(<insert comment from the author here>) = A sort of authors note. This is where you speak from the point of view of the author and not the character. It doesn't affect the story and is often used to plan things.
RP = the shortened term for Roll Play.
<insert stupid joke that is cut off partway through the last wor>- *Shot* = The action used to signify that you are joking. These work better in author notes, as having your characters shot for telling a dumb joke isn't one of the brightest ideas.
-=RP START/RP END/RP PAUSE=- = A method of signifying the progress of an RP. The pause method is typically used in chatboxes.
Try not to mix these two methods as it creates a confusing RP.
